Andy Murray rips into 'amateurish' US Open scheduling after match finishes at 2:15 am

Andy Murray has slammed the "amateurish" US Open scheduling that has seen matches finish in the early hours of the morning.

The retired British tennis star took to social media after Qinwen Zheng beat Donna Vekic in a fourth-round match that did not end until 2:15 am on Monday (02.09.24) morning to express his unhappiness at the late finishing times of Grand Slam matches.

Murray wrote on X: "The tennis scheduling situation is a total mess.

"It looks so amateurish having matches going on at 2, 3, 4 am Sort it out."

The former world number one tagged the ATP Tour, WTA Tour, International Tennis Federation and the four Grand Slam touraments in his post.

It is not the first time that Murray has expressed his unhappiness about matches finishing late as he complained about being given the late time slot on Centre Court for his loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas at Wimbledon last year.

He said at the time: "It seems like a basic thing to change. Just go back to the 1 pm start or even 12.30 pm. But it’s a financial reason they are doing it for, so it won’t change.

"I had multiple conversations before the start of the tournament and asked not to play the third match every single day because that’s what is going to happen with the 1.30 start and the breaks in between the matches.

"The roof, in my opinion, was there for when it rains so that there are always matches that can go on for the fans and for TV, and it’s great. [But] it feels like it’s getting used now for darkness to play matches later in the evening."
