Jason Moloney hails Japan's 'golden age' of boxing

Jason Moloney believes Japan is going through a "golden age" of boxing.

The bantamweight lost his WBO title to Yoshiki Takei in May, during a 48 hour period which saw all four belts in his weight division go to Japanese fighters and he's enjoying currently being in the Far East for his own training, as well as helping his sparring partner Seiya Tsutsumi with his preparations.

He told Boxing News magazine: "They have so many big names and so many more growing within the sport. They are selling out the biggest arenas the country has.

"Everybody seems to want to go to the boxing and watch and support their champions.

"I would say there is a boom, but boxing has always been relatively big here…

"They've always supported their fighters really well, but this has to be the golden age for boxing in Japan, particularly in the lighter weights.

"I really want to be part of it.

"You don't see too many heavier guys in the gym but there is a lot of talent. It's good to be around.

"Sparring these guys, watching and learning from them all the time is only going to help me improve as a fighter."

Jason is hopeful he'll be able to fight in Japan in the coming months.

He said: "I would love for that to be before the end of the year.

"I'll do this training camp to get nice and fit then me being over here will hopefully create some interest for the Top Rank double-header.

"I thought I would get amongst it, have a look at the competition and create a bit of interest in me fighting one of the winners later in the year.

"We will see how it plays out, but it's great to be here."
