Rafael Nadal emotionally prepared for end of tennis career

Rafael Nadal is "emotionally ready" for the end of his tennis career.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion will bring the curtain down on his time in the sport after the Davis Cup Finals next month but insists that he will only represent Spain in the singles if he is "ready to win".

Nadal said: "Emotionally, I'm sure I'll be ready. Physically and in terms of tennis level, there remains a month left to prepare.

"I will try to be in good shape to help the team to win. If I don't feel ready for the singles, I'll be the first one to say.

"Be 100 per cent sure, I will not be on court if I don't feel ready to win my match."

The former world number one is currently in action at the Six Kings Slam exhibition event that is taking place in Saudi Arabia and is looking forward to taking on great rival Novak Djokovic for the 61st and last time.

Nadal said: "To have Novak in front [of me], it's like a nostalgic thing.

"We've played each other a lot, so it'll be fun to play each other again one more time in this match. Hopefully we can create a good show and good level of entertainment."

Nadal was beaten by compatriot Carlos Alcaraz at the event on Thursday (17.10.24) and expects the 21-year-old star to build on his four major wins.

The legend said: "He's going to do very well with what he's got. He's learning all the time.

"We can see he's developing in every way. But of course I'll be ready whenever he wants to call me."
