Novak Djokovic pulls out of Paris Masters

Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the Paris Masters in a move that could end his season.

The Serbian tennis ace has opted to withdraw from the tournament and could put his place at the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin next month at risk.

He is currently sixth in the race for qualification for the eight-man event but a number of players could overtake him with strong performances in the French capital.

Djokovic posted on social media: "Unfortunately I won't be playing the Paris Masters this year.

"Wishing all the players, sponsors, organisers and fans a great tournament. I have a lot of great memories, winning seven titles there, and hope to be back with you next year."

The 24-time Grand Slam champion previously suggested that he wouldn't be taking part in the season-ending event as he tailors his schedule for major tournaments and opportunities to represent his country.

Djokovic said: "Torino is not my goal at all, to be honest, I am not chasing ATP Finals, I am not chasing the rankings etc.

"As far as I am concerned, I am done with those tournaments for my career. Whether I will play other tournaments this year or in the future, I can’t say right now.

"My main priorities are playing for the national team and Slams, everything else is less important."

Djokovic explained that he is more "spontaneous" with his event selection as he is now in the closing years of his career.

The world number four said: "Usually in my career I used to have my schedule ready six months in advance, but nowadays that’s not the case, now it’s more spontaneous.

"Firstly, I need to physically, emotionally and mentally rest in order to even start thinking what I want to do next, in what way, how much and where."
