Andre Onana believes Man Utd can be successful under Ruben Amorim

Andre Onana thinks that Manchester United are capable of adapting to new manager Ruben Amorim's approach.

The Portuguese coach will take over at Old Trafford next week and the United goalkeeper thinks the team are capable of replicating the success Amorim has had with Sporting Lisbon - who defeated Manchester City 4-1 in the Champions League earlier this week.

Onana said: "Great victory for them, by the way.

"Different system but my players, my team-mates, we are all pragmatic.

"I think everyone here is capable to play in each system so I don't think this will be any issue for us. We have big players so they will step up."

Onana was brought to United last year by Erik ten Hag after the pair had worked together at Ajax and insists that the squad "gave everything" for the axed manager.

He said: "When I heard he was leaving, obviously I feel bad. It's not always easy for players to understand when a manager is leaving.

"But at the end of the day, the club have to make a decision and we have to follow.

"Yes, I worked with him, he's a good manager, I have a very good relationship with him.

"Why things didn't work here? We didn't win enough games so it's simple.

"In high level it's not easy. Sometimes you have to pay the price. Unfortunately it was him. We did everything, the players gave everything, we worked hard, we tried out best, but it just didn't work."

Ruud van Nistelrooy has taken interim charge of United until Amorim's arrival and Onana has enjoyed working with the Red Devils legend.

He said: "I’ve been working with Ruud as a head coach for a few days, and he’s been amazing.

"But when he was an assistant, he was fantastic as well. He helped us a lot. He had a lot of experience. He helped the manager who was previously here. It’s just fantastic working with him, to be honest."
