Galal Yafai doesn't plan ahead

Galal Yafai isn’t looking “too far ahead” with his career.

The 31-year-old southpaw will fight Sunny Edwards for the interim WBC flyweight title on Saturday (30.11.24) night and he’s insisted he isn’t plotting his next move until he knows the outcome of the bout.

He told Boxing News magazine: “I’m just not looking too far ahead.

“I don’t even know why there’s an interim title for this one. I don’t really care either.

“I’m not thinking about the Japanese champion or whoever.

“Let me get past Sunny, that hurdle, then I might think about who there is next or what titles are available because it can all end so quick if I don’t get past Sunny next week.

“Them I’m five hurdles back. Let me get past Sunny and then we will see what Eddie Hearn and the team want to do.”

And Galal knows the outcome of the fight will also have consequences for his opponent.

He added: “If he loses, I don’t know what he does and if he wins, I don’t know what he does.

“It’s either going to be s*** for him or s*** for me.”

Sunny is a more experienced fighter but Galal believes he is “better” than him and not phased by having him as his opponent in his first 12-round fight.

He said: “I think it’s time, because I think I’m better. My team around me know I’m better than him too.

“I don’t want to throw digs at him and say I beat him up in sparring, but if Sunny had got the better of me in sparring, the fight wouldn’t be happening so it’s really simple.”
