The 43-year-old former defender was part of a Manchester United side that won the Premier League five times and numerous other honours, including an FA Cup win, two League Cup victories and a Champions League triumph but he insisted he doesn’t need to look at his souvenirs because the memories are still in his mind.
He told World Soccer magazine: “I finished my career with great memories playing for United, plenty of medals as well, but they are not on display in my house.
“A lot of players will have a similar story. You might have a few things around the place from your career but putting medals in frames and hanging them on the wall in your living room is not something I’ve ever done.
“Maybe it’s something I will get around to one day, but the memories are all there in my mind and I’m sure one day the medals and the jerseys will be great to look back on.”
John – who was 17 when he signed for Manchester United in 1999 and left in 2011 – scored 10 goals for the club but felt they were often overlooked.
He said: “I didn’t score too many goals and such was the quality in our team during those years that when I did score a goal, Ronaldo or Wayne Rooney would tend to score a couple of amazing goals in the same match and mine would blend into the background.”
