Arne Slot has 'mixed feelings' as Liverpool held by Newcastle

Arne Slot was left with "mixed feelings" as Liverpool were held to a dramatic 3-3 draw against Newcastle.

The Reds were pegged back late on by the Magpies in Wednesday's (04.12.24) Premier League clash as their lead at the top was reduced to seven points and Slot was frustrated by his team squandering victory having led late on.

Slot told Amazon Prime Video after the game: "We were twice one goal down; one minute before the end we’re up, so mixed feelings.

"First half we were not good enough for the quality of Newcastle so maybe in the end 3-3 is what the game deserves.

"They were aggressive and forced too many mistakes from us. We played a few times through them but that second half was so much better, more dominance, more control and created good opportunities.

"We had more intensity, we were much, much better with the ball."

Despite being held to a draw, Slot was pleased with Liverpool's improved performance in the second-half following a demanding week that saw them beat Real Madrid and Manchester City.

The Dutch coach said: "We had two very tough games and one day less to recover than the opponent. If you are a goal down and after the week we had, in an away game, that we're able to change the game completely in the second half then it’s a really positive thing to take."

Mohamed Salah once again starred for Liverpool as he netted twice and Slot revealed that the club expect the Egyptian to "continue for a long time", even though his contract expires at the end of the season.

He said: "Every time we need Mo Salah he scores a goal.

"We are hoping and expecting he can continue this for a long time. He was outstanding in the second half, he did many special things for us."
