Jack Harrison enjoys busy festive football period

Jack Harrison enjoys the busy football schedule over the festive period.

The Everton winger doesn’t mind the fact his Christmas celebrations have to take a back seat because the games over the season typically attract bigger crowds.

Asked if he enjoys the extra matches over the period, he told Match magazine: “It’s busy! Football is in the spotlight at Christmas because a lot of people have time off work and the kids are off school, so it’s nice to play in those big games where everyone is watching.”

The 27-year-old footballer felt “lucky” last season as he didn’t have to play on Boxing Day so could enjoy celebrations on Christmas day.

He said: “In the past, it’s always meant hotels for me. We got lucky last year as we had the day off for Christmas and it’s always nice to spend that time with family, but usually you’re preparing for a game on Boxing Day or the day after.”

Despite so much of the holiday being dominated by football, Jack still enjoys Christmas more than his birthday.

He explained: “I always like Christmas because it is family time.

“Birthdays are just one day, whereas Christmas goes on for the whole month and it’s always a special time.”

Jack always prefers to get a real Christmas tree to decorate.

He said: “The fake ones are easier to decorate but I think it’s nice having a real Christmas tree in the house.

“We always had one when I was growing up so I always have one now… But they make a mess, don’t they?”
