Pep Guardiola questioning himself as Man City slump goes on

Pep Guardiola is questioning himself as Manchester City manager as their woeful form continued.

City's hopes of progressing to the Champions League knockout stages are in the balance following a 2-0 loss at Juventus on Wednesday (11.12.24) and the coach is scrutinising the way he works following a nightmare run of just one victory in 10 games.

Guardiola said: "Of course [I am questioning myself]. I have my thoughts. I'm stable in good moments and bad moments. I try to find a way to do it. I'm incredibly honest. If we play good, we play good.

"The dressing room is stable. Win we are happy, lose we are not. What can we do? Feel sorry for ourselves. No, we improve it and go forward.

"We have been in this situation this month many times. Tomorrow recover, prepare for (Manchester) United with our people, insist in the good things we do and try to be better."

City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan believes that the current problems are down to a lack of confidence that sees the team vulnerable whenever they lose possession of the ball.

He told TNT Sports: "I don't know, I have a feeling sometimes we are a bit careless with duels, instead of playing simple we overcomplicate things and we missed the right timing to release the ball. Just lose the ball and give them counter attacks.

"We are built for possession, keep the ball, be strong, if you can't do anything don't lose it. At the moment it's not working out for us."

Gundogan added: "I feel like we know exactly what's going wrong. If you look at the most part of games, even today, we actually didn't play bad. [We] created chances, just missed to score, in these kind of games if you give away one chance it's not easy to bounce back.

"We know what's going wrong it's just finding the switch to turn things around because even though we are not getting results, it doesn't feel like we are far off.

"As long as we don't find that click, it's going to be tough. The only thing right now we can do, every single player needs to question themselves, to do better, how the player can individually sacrifice more to contribute to the team so we can get collectively back on our way."
