The 22-year-old driver - who made his F1 debut in the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix in place of injured Daniel Ricciardo and has now been promoted to a full-time driver for Red Bull, replacing Sergio Perez as Max Verstappen's partner - tries to minimise his use of social media these days because of the hostility he has faced from both Daniel and Sergio's fans.
He told The Times newspaper: “Originally I saw a lot of [the abuse] because I didn’t expect it, I wasn’t ready for that.
“To be honest, I just don’t really go on social media at all any more. I will post for my fanbase, but I won’t scroll or look through messages.
"You do the prep for F1 to be ready as a driver, and then you don’t really expect that kind of stuff, or you don’t really prepare for it, because you’re just focused on driving.”
Liam is "excited" to partner Max and thinks he will learn a lot from being in such close proximity to one of the sport's finest drivers.
He said: “I’m going to try and do the best job I can to support the team to the constructors’. Honestly, what excites me more is knowing that this guy [Max] is the best, he’s won the last four championships, he’s looked at as the best F1 driver in the world. I get to take his data from every single session, every practice, qualifying, race, I get access to everything, to see exactly how he does it. There’s nobody better to learn off.”
