Sean Longstaff makes New Year's resolution to be the 'best dad'

Sean Longstaff’s New Year’s resolution is to be the “best dad [he] can be”.

The Newcastle United midfielder became a father for the first time over the summer and he is determined to do his best for his little boy Brady.

Asked his New Year’s resolution for 2025, he told Match magazine: “I’m a dad now, so just to be the best dad I can be to my little boy, and just to continue to enjoy every day and just enjoy life really.”

The 27-year-old player previously proclaimed fatherhood to be the “best thing” to ever happen to him because his family life helps him “completely switch off” from football.

He previously told The Athletic: “To be honest, I think it’s probably the best thing that could have happened to me. The less I can think about football, the better, really. I’ve got a little boy now and he just gives me a chance to completely switch off, which I really like.

“From being full time, 17 until 26, you come in after training and you think about training. You play a game and you think about how you’ve played for however long.

“Suddenly, I’ve had a little baby and after the first day of pre-season, I came home and just sat with him on the settee and didn’t even think about it once. I think that’ll only help me going forward.

“It’s been a life-changing summer and I couldn’t be happier.

“Newcastle’s a bubble. Sometimes, win or lose, you can’t get away from the game as much as you want to. I think now it’ll be completely different. It’ll have to be when a nappy needs changing. I’ll have less time to sit on my phone or watch the telly when I’m with him.”
