The Special One is currently in charge of Turkish giants Fenerbahce but has suggested that his next post will be with a national team as he wants to "unite a country" at either a World Cup or European Championship.
Mourinho told the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport: "I want to play a European Championship or a World Cup and unite a country around a team, as I have already done many times with the clubs.
"I want to do it for football and what this sport represents. It will be incredible."
The Portuguese coach added: "I love football and my work. I don't want to wait for the ideal opportunity, the perfect place, and even less, take a sabbatical. I know many like it, or at least, this is what they say."
Mourinho also revealed that one of his "biggest regrets" during his managerial career was his decision to leave Real Madrid to rejoin Chelsea in 2013 after Real president Florentino Perez had asked him to remain with the La Liga giants.
He said: "Saying no to Florentino Perez remains one of the big regrets.
"He told me: Don't leave now, you've done the hard part and the good part is yet to come. Stay at Real Madrid.
"But I wanted to return to Chelsea after three tough years in Spain!"
Mourinho also believes he should have left Roma following their defeat in the 2023 Europa League final - where he angrily confronted referee Anthony Taylor in the car park after the game.
He said: "I have to talk about Budapest, not because of the confusion with Anthony Taylor.
"But because I didn't leave straight away. I should have left Roma straight away, I didn't , and it was a mistake."
