Oleksandr Usyk doesn't think Tyson Fury has retired from boxing for good

Oleksandr Usyk does not think Tyson Fury has retired for good.

The British heavyweight revealed last month that his boxing career was over following his rematch loss to Usyk in December but the Ukrainian thinks that competing in the ring is "like a drug" for his rival.

Usyk told talkSPORT.com: "I don't think about it but I think it is not true.

"Once Tyson has relaxed, and rested, maybe Tyson will be back.

"Boxing if you do this for a long time: 10, 15, 20, 25 years then boxing is like a drug."

The heavyweight world champion continued: "If you don't go to training one day then you feel dead. For me, at least.

"I train every day. I don't do boxing every day. Sometimes I do crossfit, and running training.

"I only do boxing when I am in my camp."

Fury's promoter Frank Warren revealed last week that he doesn't expect the Gypsy King to return and will not be trying to tempt him back into competing.

He told TNT Sports: "I’m not trying to bring him back, I’ve not even discussed it with him. He’s retired and that’s it.

"If he ever decided [to return] - and that’s a big if - it would be his decision to make with his family, I would certainly not try to encourage him in doing that.

"He has been a magnificent servant for British boxing, one of the two best heavyweights of the 21st century, done it at every level, won world titles in other guys’ backyards against good quality fighters.

"He has done everything that has been asked of him, and he has had a hard career in some respects. Some self-inflicted, and when you look the first time around when he won the world title, the problems he had, the depths of despair, the boozing, messing about with stuff he shouldn’t have been messing about with.

"That in itself is a mountain to climb, and he did that and showed what he is all about, his courage, and with the support of his family he went on to win and regain the world title."
