Travis Kelce was told to clear head by Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid before deciding on NFL future

Travis Kelce was advised to clear his head by Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid before deciding on his NFL future.

The tight end - who is dating pop star Taylor Swift - has confirmed that he will continue playing for the franchise next season and the coach has revealed how he wanted the star to put the team's Super Bowl loss behind him before making such an important decision.

Speaking to 'The Bettor Angle', Reid said: "We had a great visit before he left.

"I always tell the guys to ‘Get out of here. Get out and get your mind where it’s not one day after the Super Bowl. Get out there, and relax a little bit. And then let your mind calm down and think about it'."

The coach revealed that Kelce, 35, is fully committed to a 13th campaign with the Chiefs, even though his age has become a sticking point for some critics.

Reid said: "He’s all in. He’s a heck of a player, I mean listen, he’s getting older, but you’re talking about the guy that’s going to go down as maybe the best of all time at that position."

Kelce explained that he had decided to carry on playing as he wasn't satisfied with his performance last season, even though the Chiefs narrowly missed out on a historic third straight Super Bowl win.

Speaking to his brother, Jason Kelce, on their 'New Heights' podcast, he said: "The biggest thing is I f****** love playing the game of football. I still feel like I can play it at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year.

"I don't think it was my best outing [last season]. I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record and how I've been in years past."
