Vincent Kompany: Harry Kane gets better with age

Vincent Kompany says Harry Kane has gotten better with age as he fired Bayern Munich to the Champions League quarter-finals.

The England captain scored one and made another as Bayern beat Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 (5-0 on aggregate) in Tuesday's (11.03.25) last 16 second leg and the coach says the forward has improved since they competed against each other in the Premier League as players.

Kompany told reporters: "It helps when you have a top player who wants to run and fight for the team like a youth player.

I played against him as an opponent and he has become better with age. He has a way to work towards his performances.

"I trust his consistency and how he works towards his game and with that quality you always get your moments."

Victory in the tie enabled Bayern to beat an opponent who get the better of them in the Bundesliga last season but Kompany insists that the triumph won't "decide the season".

He said: "These two wins, they don't decide the season but we have a lot of respect for Leverkusen. We did our work.

"We did it well in the first 20 minutes and had the better chances. Our aim was to win the first half and then to win the second half and we did that."

Kane has become the first English player to score 10 goals in a single Champions League campaign and felt that Bayern's emphatic win over the two legs has sent a warning to their European rivals.

He said: "To beat this team 5-0 over two legs shows the type of team that we are. We're in the quarter-final now where Bayern Munich should be and we want to keep pushing.

"We just want to enjoy this because it's not easy. Especially when you play your domestic rivals, there's a lot of pressure, there's a lot of intensity that goes into it."
