Ruben Amorim challenges Man Utd players to respond to Sir Jim Ratcliffe criticism

Ruben Amorim says it is up to him and Manchester United's players to "change" Sir Jim Ratcliffe's opinion of the squad.

The club's co-owner said earlier this week that some Red Devils players were "not good enough" and "overpaid" and the coach says his squad can only challenge perceptions with what they achieve on the pitch.

Asked about Ratcliffe's remarks, Amorim said: "I think if we are being honest in this moment, everybody - me, the players - are underperforming this season.

"I include myself in the underperforming.

"You are talking about players like Casemiro that won everything and we know these players can play so much better.

"He (Ratcliffe) was honest in that. The focus is to change his mind and everybody's."

Amorim insists that he has a strong relationship with the United board and shares Radcliffe's "blunt and honest" approach.

The Portuguese manager said: "I think we are really blunt and honest with each other, we are quite similar in that.

"I always felt the support of the board, especially Sir Jim."

Amorim also revealed that United have transfer plans in place to help the team improve next season.

Speaking ahead of the second leg of the club's Europa League last 16 tie against Real Sociedad on Thursday (13.03.25), he said: "We have a clear plan to address next season. We have Europa League also and you can reach the Champions League as well - we are far from this moment, but it can change the preparation for next season.

"We know what to do. We know we're in a difficult moment, but it's important to have a plan and [to know] what kind of players you need to bring [in]."
