Emily Heskey praises 'secret weapon' Thomas Tuchel

Emile Heskey believes Thomas Tuchel can be England’s “secret weapon” for the 2026 World Cup.

The former England striker supports the German’s appointment as the new England manager and thinks the former Chelsea head coach’s “painstaking’ approach to games is just what the side need ahead of the tournament.

Emile told FourFourTwo magazine: “He’s made a name for himself as a cup manager, and they get no bigger than the World Cup.

“He’s a planner, he’s painstaking, he prepares for an opponent’s weaknesses and he knows how to keep things tight.

“We’ve brought in an expert for exactly those types of games and I believe he could be our secret weapon.”

Emile believes the new manager’s toughest task will be to decide who plays with Harry Kane, with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish all in consideration.

He said: “Right now, a lot of our star men all want to play in that advanced midfield position.

“It will take a strong coach to choose between them and also a great tactician to find a way that allows the best combinations to work together.

“We saw Bellingham and Foden in the same team at Euro 2024 and neither seemed comfortable with that.

“Foden wasn’t able to recreate the form that saw him win the Premier League player of the season award right before that tournament.

“Bellingham looked sluggish and unsure. Palmer came on and scored in the final against Spain, but where does he fit in? He has to play, for me.

Saka has to play when he’s available too. It’s almost impossible.”
