Rafael da Silva slams 'worst coach' Louis van Gaal

Rafael da Silva has branded Louis van Gaal the “worst coach” he ever worked with.

The former Manchester United right back recalled how the Dutchman “wanted [him] out” of the Premier League club as soon as he took over from David Moyes in 2014 and only gave him any game time when his teammates intervened.

Rafael told FourFourTwo magazine: “He was the worst coach I’ve ever worked with in my career – no question about it.

“I’ll tell you the reason why; he just looked me in the face and said, ‘I don’t like you.’ Can you believe it? The guy wanted me out of the football club on his second day in the ob.

“I ended up playing a few games, but only because Ryan Giggs and some other senior names begged him to let me play.”

Though the Brazilian spent most of his Manchester United career working under Sir Alex Ferguson, he also had 10 months with Moyes in charge, and he thinks the now-Everton boss had a “tough” time and came in for unfair criticism.

He said: “It was tough for him at United, wasn’t it? Moyes was Scottish, just like Sir Alex, but they’re different people, different managers, with totally different styles.

“I think that any manager who’d arrived after everything Ferguson had done at Old Trafford was going to have a difficult time. It had been 27 years. That’s really complicated.

“Moyes still receives unjust criticism, because it’d be a hard job for any manager in the world, but I admired him very much.”
