Luke Littler vows 'there is plenty more to come' after nine-darter

Luke Littler has vowed "there is plenty more to come" after throwing a spectacular nine-darter to score a six-point lead in the darts Premier League.

The teenage sensation triumphed 6-4 over Dutch legend Michael van Gerwen to win night seven of the Premier League in Cardiff, Wales on Thursday (20.03.25) and he was helped to victory by his third televised nine-darter as he threw two 180s followed by T20, T17 and D15 - and Littler has admitted it came after a week without any practice.

He told Sky Sports: "I have been playing very well. I had no idea [if the nine-darter had gone in]. I just had to wait for [the referee] Huw [Ware] to call it. Is it? Is it? Yeah."

Littler, 18, added: "I have not picked my darts up since last Thursday - I had a week off to chill. But to come here and win and be six points clear, I am comfortable."

The reigning PDC World Champion is six points clear at the top of the table with 21 ahead of rival Luke Humphries on 15 and van Gerwen in third with 13 - and Littler is now looking forward to another week off as he keeps the London play-offs in May in his sights.

He said: "All players have to have a rest and after the performance tonight, I will have another week off!I just want to get to the O2 [Arena in London for May's play-offs] as quick as possible.

"I have put myself in a really good position and I do want to finish number one. Last year I didn't want number one this year I want to try and stay there. I was happy with my doubles tonight but there is plenty more to come."

It comes as darts veteran Stephen Bunting lags behind in 10th position after failing to secure a single win in the PL tournament so far.

He was defeated by Chris Dobey 6-2 on night seven and after the match, Bunting shared an emotional message with his fans admitting he's been battling nerves throughout the run.

In a post on X - formerly known as Twitter - Bunting wrote: "Absolutely gutted," Bunting wrote on X on Thursday night. "So sorry to all who support me. Practiced so well tonight and unfortunately it just didn't happen on the stage.

"I'll keep giving it my all guys and keep believing. I'm making myself so nervous because I care and want to perform to my best instead of just relaxing and letting it happen. See you all next week. I'll work hard and make sure I'll improve."

Week eight kicks off in Newcastle on March 27 and will pit Bunting against league leader Littler.
