The Bosnian goalkeeper is currently on a one-year deal at Everton and though he insisted he hasn’t yet made a decision beyond that contract, he wants to stay in the football world in some way.
He told World Soccer magazine: “My immediate focus is to help the team maintain its Premier League status.
“I’m 37, in good physical condition and still able to play to a high standard.
“Come the end of the season, I will assess my options and go for the one that suits me and my family.
“Medium to long-term, I’m open-minded regarding coaching as I have both UEFA B licenses. I speak several languages, have networks in various countries, so a sporting director role would interest me.
“I’m also enjoying my media work. I want to stay in football in some capacity, but it all depends on being given the right opportunity.
“My goalkeeping academy runs in Germany, UK and Bosnia and we specialise in coaching the future generation of goalkeepers.”
Asmir knows he’s no longer first-choice keeper but he thinks he still has an important role to play for Everton.
He said: “It’s easier with experience to look at the bigger picture.
“I’ve not returned as the number one and I accept that.
“It’s about helping the team in other ways, such as setting standards, offering mentorship and guidance.
“The more I push Jordan [Pickford], the team ultimately benefits.
“There aren’t many clubs where you would be happy to play as back-up, but I have an affinity with Everton and the fans, and I want to help the club any way I can.
“I train everyday with the same commitment and passion I did when I was a first team regular, as you just don’t know when you will find yourself in goal.”
