Eddie Howe to miss more Newcastle matches after pneumonia diagnosis

Eddie Howe will miss more Newcastle games after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

The Magpies boss was absent from the team's win over Manchester United at the weekend after being hospitalised on Friday (11.04.25) and will be away from the touchline for the club's next two Premier League games as he continues his recovery.

In a statement issued by Newcastle, Howe said: "A huge thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United and the wider football community for your messages and warm wishes. They have meant a lot to me and my family.

"I also want to pay tribute to our incredible NHS and the hospital staff who have treated me.

"I'm immensely grateful for the specialist care I'm receiving and, after a period of recovery, I look forward to being back as soon as possible."

Howe's assistant Jason Tindall and fellow coach Graeme Jones will lead the Magpies in the upcoming fixtures against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa and the club stated that "further updates" about the situation will be "communicated in due course".

The statement added: "The club continues to extend its best wishes and support to Eddie and his family as he continues his recovery."

Tindall revealed that no timeframe has been given for Howe's return but says that the coach will be back once he is "100 per cent ready".

He said: "We've had minimal dialogue together since that announcement.

"He's in the best possible hands and he'll be back as soon as he feels he's ready to come back 100 per cent to lead the team.

"There is no exact timeframe. That is something we will assess day by day.

"He will only come back when he is ready to come back and it will be on the guidance of the people taking care of him."
