The 33-year-old right back is preparing for her side Chelsea to face Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final this weekend, and while she knows the team have a “winning mentality”, she knows they will need something extra to triumph.

She told Match magazine: “Chelsea have already got that winning mentality, but sometimes it’s not just talent that you need.

“Those last bits – the knowhow of winning, being ready and focused, having clear minds – Sonia Bompastor and myself can add it and push this team over the line…

“Adding that small bit at the end, it’s the biggest push, but the smallest little bit is needed to try to win the trophy.”

Chelsea lost to Barcelona in last year’s semi-final and Lucy – who left the Spanish club at the end of last summer to return to England with the Blues - thinks the experience will have helped.

She added: “It was a really tight game. In the end, it was won by a penalty and about being smarter in those moments.

“I saw how much it meant to the Chelsea girls to beat Barcelona in Barcelona.

“Those things add to the experience of what you need to win the Champions League.”
