Tyrrell Hatton eyes Ryder Cup place

Tyrrell Hatton knows it will be “a lot harder” for him to make the Ryder Cup team this year.

The 33-year-old golfer has played on the European side for the last three tournaments and admitted he’s maintained a hectic playing schedule after joining LIV Golf in order to stay in contention.

He told Golf Monthly magazine: “Look, playing pretty much every event that’s open to me is all about showing how much playing in the Ryder Cup again this year matters to me.

“My other commitments mean that, after Dubai, I only have the four Majors to continue earning points for the Ryder Cup. So making such a great start to qualifying was huge.

“It’s no secret how much I really want to be on that team.

“I’ve qualified automatically for the previous three Ryder Cups and I would love to keep that streak going.

“Yes, it’s a lot harder for me now but winning the Dunhill and adding the Desert Classic title, which carries massive qualifying points as a Rolex Series event, puts me in a great position.”

Tyrell knows he needs to step up his game in the Majors to keep his dreams alive.

He added: “I still need to play the Majors a lot better than I have in the past to have a realistic chance of making the team automatically.

“But even if I don’t quite make it, I’d like to think I’ve done a good job of reminding Luke Donald and the rest of the backroom staff about the quality of golf I’m capable of playing.”
