Renee Slegers 'so proud' as Arsenal reach Women’s Champions League final

Renee Slegers is "so proud" of Arsenal for reaching the Women’s Champions League final for the first time in 18 years.

The head coach saw her side emerge victorious after overcoming French side Lyon at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday night (27.04.25) to snatch a place in May's final - marking the first time the team has reached a European final since 2007 when they sealed a historic quadruple by winning the UEFA Women's Cup.

Sleger said: "I’m so proud of the whole team. I am so happy for everyone that we have achieved this. It’s a team performance and I don’t take myself out of the team …

"There is so much work that has been done before both to qualify this season and also all the work the club has done through many years to get us into this position. It is so good as an organisation to be able to compete in this final."

Arsenal went into the second leg of their two-match battle with Lyon on the back foot after losing their home game 2-1, but they staged a comeback with Mariona Caldentey, Alessia Russo and Caitlin Foord all hitting the back of the net along with an own goal from Lyon keeper Christiane Endler.

They won the second leg by four goals to one giving them a final score of 5-3 on aggregate.

The Gunners will face Barcelona in the UEFA Women's Champions League final in Lisbon, Portugal on May 24 after the Spanish side overcame Arsenal's London rivals Chelsea to secure a spot in the decider.
