Apple is reportedly working on a generative A.I. model to replace Siri on future “robotic devices”.

The Cupertino-based tech company has been using the digital assistant on iPhones, iPads and Macs since its introduction in 2011, though Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has now claimed the business is looking to bring a more powerful A.I. “personality” that’s based on generative A.I. to their products.

In a post on X, the analyst wrote: “One vital piece of Apple’s robotic work is the creation of a personality.

“While Siri is the digital assistant on Apple’s current devices, the company is working on another humanlike interface based on GenAI. It could run on the tabletop and other future Apple robotics devices, I’m told.”

While Apple is said to be tinkering with A.I. for future products, the company has already ventured into advanced machine-learning with Apple Intelligence.

At The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, Apple revealed it was overhauling Siri in collaboration with OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT.

The technology -which will be available on higher-end devices running iOS18, iPadOS 18 or macOS Sequoia - will utilise generative models to perform context-based tasks like creating images and generating language.

In a statement, Apple CEO Tim Cook said: “Our unique approach combines generative A.I. with a user’s personal context to deliver truly helpful intelligence.

“And it can access that information in a completely private and secure way to help users do the things that matter most to them. This is A.I. as only Apple can deliver it, and we can’t wait for users to experience what it can do.”
