Huawei unveils $2,800 tri-fold smartphone hours after Apple launches iPhone 16

Huawei has unveiled its $2,800 tri-fold smartphone to rival Apple's new iPhone 16.

The Chinese tech giant showed off the Mate XT - which has already had 3.6 million pre-orders - in Shenzhen, China, just hours after its smartphone rival unveiled its new range iPhones, which come with already integrated generative AI features.

The device has three folds and opens out like an accordion.

Huawei executive director Richard Yu said: "Today we bring you a product that everyone can think of but could not make. Our team has been working hard for five years and has never given up.

"We dare to make extraordinary breakthroughs. Today we will once again rewrite the history of the industry, turn science fiction into reality, and lead a new era of folding devices."

Apple boss Tim Cook boasted that the iPhone 16, which was unveiled at the 'Glowtime' event', will "push the boundaries of what a smartphone can do".

However, it's not the only smartphones to have AI features.
