iPhones can finally support wired Xbox controllers

iPhones can now support wired Xbox controllers.

The latest iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and mac Sequouia updates will allow gamers to play with a wired controller even for those devices using a Lightning port, providing they have an adapter.

As reported by MacRumors, the new patch means there will be official support for wired controllers, whereas previously on wired PlayStation handsets were compatible.

Previously, both Xbox and PS controllers were supported on apple devices via Bluetooth.

Earlier this year, Apple engineer Nat Brown explained that Microsoft's console uses a custom USB protocol for wired controllers.

This latest operated system updated means the tech giant finally supports that protocol directly, which means it can connect natively to a wired Xbox controller.

For anyone using an iOS device fitting with a Lightning port - which was used for older iPhones and iPads - a Lightning to USB Camera Adapter will be needed to connect the controller, which is the same way PS controllers work.

To connect to Apple devices with a USB-C port, users can simply plug in the controller to establish the wired connection, and you can then use the controller within games and apps.
