Amazon issues update on office mandate as they look to the future

Amazon is still "trying to get back" to a pre-pandemic approach to working.

The tech giant has operated a flexible scheme for some workers since the COVID-19 pandemic but is now trying to implement an office mandate and is in the middle of developing a new AI "culture coach" as they go into the future.

Beth Galetti, Amazon's senior vice president said: "We're trying to get back to that. At the same time, Amazon is also embracing new ways of working, including building a generative AI culture coach to give employees feedback."

CEO Andy Jassy recently issued a notice to staff explaining why they will be required to give up remote work from now on.

In a note, he said: "To address the second issue of being better set up to invent, collaborate, and be connected enough to each other and our culture to deliver the absolute best for customers and the business, we’ve decided that we’re going to return to being in the office the way we were before the onset of COVID. When we look back over the last five years, we continue to believe that the advantages of being together in the office are significant."
