Roblox says report claiming it inflates player numbers by up to 42 per cent is 'misleading'

The Roblox Corporation has called a report that claimed the company inflates 'Roblox' player numbers by up to 42 per cent "misleading".

A recent report from Hindenberg Research alleged the studio had artificially increased its player numbers of the online game in an effort to impress shareholders, but the studio has now hit back at the claim and argued the writers had "an agenda" against 'Roblox'.

In a statement, the business said: "The financial claims made by Hindenburg are misleading. The authors are short sellers and have an agenda irrespective of the substance of 'Roblox's business model and results."

The company explained it defined a daily active user (DAU) of the game as "a user who has logged in and visited 'Roblox' through our website or application on a unique registered account on a given calendar day".

This means the same user who logs into the title through two separate accounts within a 24-hour period counts as two DAUs.

They said: "Because DAUs measure account activity and an individual user may actively use our platform within a particular day on multiple accounts for which that individual registered, our DAUs are not a measure of unique individuals accessing 'Roblox'."

The corporation also pointed to fraudulent bot accounts which can be used to artificially inflate user numbers in the game, and stressed this was something the developer was attempting to "detect and minimise".
