Elon Musk's X going ahead with block change despite criticism

Elon Musk's X will "soon" make it possible for blocked users to still view posts set to public - despite receiving a backlash over the controversial update.

Although they will be able to see the content, blocked users won't be able to like, reply or repost posts.

The official X Engineering page announced this week: "Soon we’ll be launching a change to how the block function works.

"If your posts are set to public, accounts you have blocked will be able to view them, but they will not be able to engage (like, reply, repost, etc.)."

Users are currently receiving a notification which is titled "Block is changing soon".

It explains that users can opt to "protect" their posts by making their account private.

It adds: "If your posts are set to public, accounts you have blocked will be able to view them, but they will not be able to engage. For more control over who can see your posts, you can still protect your account."

Last month, Musk said it was "high time" the function was introduced.

He wrote on the platform: “High time this happened.

“The block function will block that account from engaging with, but not block seeing, public post.”

Slamming the move, one user wrote: “One of the biggest functions of blocking is giving women the ability to stop weird men from constantly making them uncomfortable and scared.

“So of course Elon had to change that.”
