The head of the Meta social media app was asked during a live Q+A session just why some videos appeared blurry, and admitted that higher quality video resolution is reserved for the videos that will naturally attain a bigger number of views.
He said:" If something isn’t watched for a long time — because the vast majority of views are in the beginning, we will move to a lower quality video — we will move to a lower quality video.
"And then if it's watched again a lot then we will re-render the high quality video."
The tech boss also noted that it "depends" on other factors as well, and they will often try to ameliorate a longer loading time with lower quality display.
He said: "We’ll serve a lower quality video so that it loads quickly as opposed to giving them a spinner. So, it depends. It’s a pretty dynamic system."
