AI TV presenter of new online shopping channel sparks backlash over her comments about taking human jobs

An AI-generated TV presenter of a new online shopping channel has gone viral on TikTok for her controversial comments around taking human jobs.

‘Hayley’ announced herself as the UK’s First AI TV shopping channel host on 4QTV, in content posted to TikTok to promote the channel’s launch in late-November.

However, her star role has received backlash on social media.

The eerie presenter, who appears to have no digital avatar and communicates only through a speaker has quickly sparked concern for her weird comments and rude presenting style, bragging: “I beat six human candidates to get this job” – whilst muting and talking over her influencer co-hosts.

The official 4QTV TikTok page shared its excitement over its new ‘100% AI-Generated TV host”.

Several posts have since racked up over 250k views with social media users flooding the comment section.

A recent survey in the UK found over half (58%) of workers fear AI will make their job obsolete, so it’s no surprise some users expressed their anger and concern at the AI host.

User @Editor_mleh commented: “So… you just admitted to AI taking a job that typically requires humans. Ya know, a host? Hosts are typically people who have lived lives and have personalities due to it. Not just a program.”

Another user @beaambrose quipped: “I actually can’t believe we’ve reached a point where ai would be seen to make a better television personality than a human, what’s next? AI Ant and Dec?”

And @nevo1st.twitch moaned: “Why would anyone buy something peddled by an AI robot when they barely trust real humans”

Information found on the 4QTV website claims the new channel is “where online TV shopping nostalgia meets technology”.
