The 100-year-old politician – who was the longest-lived President in U.S. history – died at his home in Plains, Georgia, on Sunday (29.12.24) afternoon, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Carter – who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his work to avoid conflict around the world – has received tributes from around the world following his death, and now the Cupertino, California-based technology titan has honoured him with a homepage takeover.
It shows a black and white photo of him on a construction site, accompanied with: "Jimmy Carter, 1924 — 2024."
Following the news of Mr. Carter's death, Tim Cook, Apple CEO, posted the same photo of the 39th President on the social media platform X, and captioned it with: "Today [Sunday], we honour President Carter’s lifetime of service and his commitment to leaving the world better than he found it.
"May he rest in peace."
Mr. Carter became president in 1977 – a year after Apple was founded by Steve Jobs in 1976 – and left office in 1981 after serving a single term.
