Americans ditch TikTok for RedNote

Americans have turned to RedNote amid a pending TikTok ban.

Many U.S. citizens have joined the Chinese social media app - which has been described as a mix of the Meta-owned Instagram, and TikTok where users can share lifestyle tips.

However, like its rival, there have been suggestions of censorship when users have criticised the Chinese government, as well as Taiwan restricting access because of Chinese software security risks.

It comes as the Supreme Court has until January 19 to decide a law that sees TikTok either sell its U.S. operations or be slapped with a ban in the country.

According to BBC News, the ByteDance-owned platform has insisted it will not sell up and lawyers representing the brand have said it would remove its 170 million U.S. users' free speech.

Even if TikTok dodges a ban, some users will continue to use RedNote.

Sydney Crawley, who has racked up more than 6,000 followers within 24 hours, told the outlet: "Even if TikTok does stay I will continue to use my platform I've created on RedNote.

"I will continue to try to build a following there and see what new connections, friendships, or opportunities it brings me."
