Apple 'adds Starlink' feature to iPhones

Apple has reportedly been working with Space X and T-Mobile U.S. to add Starlink support to iPhones.

Starlink - which is a telecommunications provider owned by Elon Musk's aerospace firm - is said to have been added to the American tech titan's smartphones to provide another option to the company's internal satellite communication service.

When people are trying to contact others outside of the cellular range, the enabled device automatically attempts to hook up to SpaceX satellites.

However, it does not work when in an area where there is mobile reception.

The recent IOS update that was released on Monday (27.01.25) now allows Starlink as a text-only service - with connections and voice calls being a future addition.

iPhone users have a new toggle switch in their cellular data settings to manage the satellite feature.

According to Bloomberg, T-Mobile network users got text messages from the provider that read: “You’re in the T-Mobile Starlink beta.

"You can now stay connected with texting via satellite from virtually anywhere.

"To start experiencing coverage beyond, please update to iOS 18.3."

Following the initial rollout, SpaceX hopes to expand Starlink to other carriers around the world.
