Ryanair speaks out against bag allowance shrinkage rumours

Ryanair has not shrunk its hand luggage allowance.

The budget airline was thought to have altered the size of bag sizers at gates, meaning that flyers could face a new fee of up to £60 before boarding the plane, but bosses have now quashed the notion completely.

Ryanair’s marketing chief, Jade Kirwan, told the Express: "It hasn’t happened, I’ve just checked into this again because we have seen all the chat on social media. The rules have not changed in ten years. "

Kirwan did suggest that the confusion may have come up on the odd time that passengers who had more hand luggage than usually permitted had managed to slip through the net.

She said: "What may be happening, is that people that have gotten through a few times before because they were not closely checked have finally gotten that check."

Currently, Ryanair permits passengers carry a small personal bag (measured at 40x20x25cm), which must fit under the seat in front.

Ryanair currently presents options at booking including one £30 for a larger cabin bag spot, and another option of £25 to check in a 10kg bag.

It was recently announced that the company is set to go completely digital.

CEO Michael O'Leary said: "Nothing will be done on paper any more"
