Premier Inn has announced plans for its largest-ever hotel in northern England

Premier Inn has announced plans for its largest-ever hotel in northern England.

The budget hotel brand already boasts more than 800 hotels in the UK but has now announced plans for a 276-bedroom building, which will be built on on a cleared site adjacent to Manchester Airport’s transport interchange less than 400 metres from Terminal 1 and 2, and is currently aiming to be open in 2026.

Jill Anderson, Acquisition Manager for parent company Whitbread, said: "Securing what will become the largest Premier Inn in the north of England is a significant moment for Whitbread and one which we are proud to have delivered. With passenger numbers growing strongly at the airport I’m sure it will be a popular choice for our customers when we open the doors and start welcoming our guests."

Manchester Airport is currently the UK's third-busiest airport with visitor numbers of just over 26 million over the last year, just behind London Gatwick and London Heathrow respectively.

Currently, Premier Inn Manchester City Centre (Portland Street) is the north's biggest Whitbread hotel with 233 rooms, whilst the Premier Inn Westferry in London has over 400 rooms.

The largest Premier Inn in the whole of the UK is located just outside the North Terminal at Gatwick Airport and houses more than 700 individual rooms.
