Thai airlines unveil new flights to capitalise on India tourism

Three major Thai airlines have unveiled new direct flights from Bangkok to India.

With Thailand targeting India as a key tourism goal for the country, the new routes will let travellers go from the capital to various Indian cities in a bid to capitlise on the amount of Indian tourists coming into the country.

Now, Thai AirAsia X, Thai Lion Air and Thai VietJet have announced new direct flights to cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand says that the first 11 months of 2024 saw a huge increase in arrivals from Indian tourists.

It's said over 1.9 million visitors came to Thailand from India.

With the new routes, it's hoped there will be an enhanced connection between the countries, as well as an exchange of tourism and culture, will will boost revenue and improve economic ties.

From the airlines' point of view, they believe an increase in the connectivity will bring even more Indian tourists to Thailand, while urging Thai people to explore India in turn.

From December 15, Thai AirAsia X will start direct flights from Bangkok to Delhi, which will increase to four flights per week on January 15.

Thai Lion Air's flights to Chennai and Kolkata - each with four flights per week - will launch on December 15 and 16 respectively.

And for Thai VietJet, daily flights from Bangkok to Mumbai are kicking off from December 22.
