The practice of "diving into the nostalgia of much-loved cult classics and old-school favourites" and jetting off to destinations seen in on-screen favourites has become the motivation for travel for nearly half of Brits, according to a new survey by London Luton Airport.
58 per cent claimed that nostalgia as a key reason for the desire to travel to places that had served as locations in many of their favourite films and television programmes.
In this case, Northern Ireland is gaining particular traction, with a quarter of respondents wanting to visit after watching the Channel 4 comedy 'Derry Girls', and a 'Game of Thrones' getaway in Croatia is on the cards for 25 per cent of travellers.
What's more, AI tools are set to revolutionise spontaneous travel in 2025, with over half (54 per cent) admitting that AI improves their travel planning experience.
It is thought that AI will power travel itineraries, as nearly 40 per cent plan to use it for last minute trip recommendations.
Meanwhile, 56 per cent enjoy the prospect of organically discovering places to dine in, letting curiosity guide their journey.
