Premier Inn announces plans to move call centres to Egypt

Premier Inn is moving its call centres to Egypt.

The budget hotel company currently has a call centre based in Houghton Hall Business Park in Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire but 88 staff were told towards the end of January that they would be made redundant.

A spokesperson for parent company Whitbread said: "We can confirm that we have begun a consultation process which will involve proposed changes to some of our contact centre teams."

The company also has a call centre based in Manila, Philippines, although it is thought that the majority of the Premier Inn's residents now book their stays online.

Despite the sudden change, the BBC reported that the complaints line and queries telephone Houghton Regis.

Just weeks ago, bosses of the Premier Inn - which is the largest brand of its kind in the UK - said they can attest to the "strength and appeal" of the company with the achievements over the course of the last year after 1,000 new rooms were added.

Alex Flach, UK and Ireland Development Director, commented: “The seven new Premier Inn hotels we have opened this financial year showcase Whitbread’s commitment to expanding our presence in desirable, high-demand locations across the UK and Ireland.

“All of these new openings, completed since March 2024, are leasehold developments – a testament to the strength and appeal of the Whitbread covenant among our development partners. Notably, three of these hotels were created through the conversion of vacant office buildings, a process that not only revitalises unused spaces but also prevents tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere during construction."
